On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump candidly expressed his dissatisfaction with the U.S. Chips Act during his address to Congress. This critique has stirred questions within the semiconductor industry about the act’s future and the involvement of American companies in this evolving landscape.
In contrast, Trump highlighted a recent deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., also known as TSMC. This leading chip manufacturer has committed to a significant investment of $100 billion to expand its factory presence in the United States. This figure is in addition to the $65 billion already slated for development. Interestingly, this new agreement doesn’t rely on any funding from the Chips Act, even though last November, the act allocated $6.6 billion for TSMC’s Arizona facilities.
