To the editor:
I just wanted to express my gratitude for two truly uplifting stories in places where we often find ourselves bracing for bad news. The first story even made the front page! Journalist Corinne Purtill highlighted the incredible work of Lindsay Brant, a nurse who initiated a group called Community. This group is dedicated to honoring life’s final moments with compassion, blending palliative care with the comforting melodies of a live choir (“Show up and share’: How one UCLA ICU helps patients and staff live with dying,” March 20).
Meanwhile, in the opinion section, we find Susan Straight’s piece, “A Defining Look at Southern California,” paying tribute to the late Douglas McCulloh through her poignant words and his evocative photographs.
Reading these stories left me feeling inspired and uplifted. It reminds me of a verse by the Indian poet Mirabai: “God has a special interest in women for they can lift this world to their breast and help Him comfort.”
