Dear Editor,
I found the recent article on the LAPD’s issues with racist comments made by certain officers both unsettling and unfortunately not unexpected. The headline, “Secret recordings reveal LAPD cops spewing racist, sexist, and homophobic comments, complaint alleges,” from March 10th, highlights deep-seated problems. Yet, due to privacy laws, the public remains in the dark about what consequences, if any, these officers will face. We end up with just another report and no real resolution.
Warm regards,
Luis Cruz, La Mirada

Dear Editor,
The LAPD’s long-standing issues with racism are well-documented, and echoes of the past are vividly captured in Joseph Wambaugh’s novels. As a former police officer with a prolific writing career in the 1970s, his books like “The New Centurions,” “The Blue Knight,” and “The Choirboys” mirror the language and attitudes brought to light in recent recordings. It seems that despite the passage of time, little has changed.
Sincerely,
Noel Park, Rancho Palos Verdes
