I’ve noticed the curious sight of numerous SMRT taxis lined up idly in an HDB carpark, sparking curiosity about why Grab has decided to throw its hat into Singapore’s taxi ring. It seems they’ve identified a strategic edge with their well-loved online booking platform. This platform not only gives a leg up to their own taxi fleet but also allows for convenient street pick-ups. Still, the local taxi landscape is nothing short of a battleground. ComfortDelgro and SMRT’s taxi divisions have been struggling ever since Uber and Grab disrupted the conventional taxi model.
I sincerely hope that Grab’s leadership knows what they’re diving into and have thoroughly considered the financials. Despite the challenges, I believe this heightened competition is ultimately a win for consumers.
