Be cautious when you hear a lot of people predicting a Black Monday for today’s trading. There’s a real chance we could witness a self-fulfilling prophecy if everyone starts panicking and selling off their shares quickly. In times of recession, which some might argue is tipping towards a Global Depression, cutting interest rates might not provide relief. This is true even for Singapore Real Estate Investment Trusts (SREITs), which are not immune to the economic struggles. I’m not entirely sure how smoothly Frasers Centrepoint Trust’s (FCT) rights issue will proceed at this point. If we experience a significant market downturn this week, and FCT’s share price falls below S$2.05 per unit, the rights issue might be derailed. It’s wise not to rush into subscribing right away; it’s better to wait and see how things evolve towards the end of the subscription period.
