Today marks the launch of Misty Breez, the latest app from Breez, crafted using their Breez SDK. This software development kit was created to make it easier for apps to integrate with the Lightning Network. As it stands, dozens of projects and companies are already leveraging this SDK to bring Lightning capabilities to their offerings.
The SDK offers two primary paths for integrating Lightning features. The first is a Native option, which lets developers incorporate a Lightning wallet using Blockstream’s Greenlight service. This service enables wallet providers to manage a cloud-based Lightning node while ensuring that users retain control over their private keys. The second option, Nodeless, facilitates seamless integration of Liquid with the Lightning Network. Both integration models in the SDK provide comprehensive support for Lightning and Liquid features, eliminating the need to build functionalities from scratch.
Misty Breez utilizes the Nodeless SDK tools, allowing users’ cryptocurrencies to be managed on the Liquid sidechain. This grants them complete control over their assets, though it requires them to trust that the Federation managing Liquid will act with integrity.
The wallet supports a variety of payment standards, including BOLT 11 and BOLT 12 invoices, LNURL-Pay, Lightning Addresses, traditional BTC addresses, and even BIP 353, Matt Corrallo’s proposal for fetching payment details using DNS. Impressively, it also handles offline payments with mobile notifications as part of the phone’s operating system.
The Breez SDK aims to equip developers with the tools to craft smooth, user-specific experiences with minimal effort. Misty Breez exemplifies this ambition, setting a new standard for user-friendly design in Lightning integrations. Other developers are encouraged to use Misty Breez as a model, and they can even build on it directly or rebrand it to suit their needs, as it is entirely open-source.
For those interested, detailed documentation for setting up the Breez SDK in Nodeless mode is readily available. The Misty Breez implementation can be found on GitHub. Eager users can try out the early access release available for Android and iOS. Additionally, a direct APK download is also offered.
The tools needed to construct an innovative user experience are readily accessible today, paving the way for enhanced financial applications and services.
