For the first time ever, the halls of the Argentine Senate opened up to a discussion centered on Bitcoin, all thanks to the initiative of NGO Bitcoin Argentina. This significant conference, under the theme “Bitcoin and its Regulatory Framework,” recently took place in the prestigious Arturo Illia Hall within the Legislative Palace.
Organized by NGO Bitcoin Argentina, the event drew together influential political advisors and department leaders from different political factions. The primary focus was on the potential repercussions Bitcoin could have on Argentina’s financial system and how it might fit within the country’s regulatory framework. Gabriela Battiato, a lawyer and the Legal Coordinator for NGO Bitcoin Argentina, spearheaded an insightful discussion delving into Bitcoin’s foundational principles, its evolution, and the ongoing debates across the globe about its regulation and adoption.
“This marks an essential step toward legislative acknowledgment of the cryptocurrency landscape. Blockchain and digital currencies have become firmly embedded in economic realities, and it’s crucial for strategic policymakers to be equipped with precise and comprehensive knowledge,” remarked Ricardo Mihura, the President of NGO Bitcoin Argentina.
The conference was initiated by Senator Antonio José Rodas and included participation from Senator Mariana Juri of Mendoza, reflecting a growing bipartisan curiosity in learning about and potentially incorporating Bitcoin within Argentina’s legal system. Their discourse emphasized Bitcoin’s revolutionary potential and its increasingly significant role in international finance.
“This event lays the groundwork for a new precedent and aligns with our objective of disseminating knowledge about Bitcoin and blockchain to all societal sectors. We are committed to continuing to promote these platforms, as we believe that fostering dialogue and education is the path to shaping appropriate regulations and advancing sector development,” stated Jimena Vallone, Executive Director of NGO Bitcoin Argentina.
