The U.S. stock market saw a rebound on Friday, though the uptick wasn’t quite enough to pull the major indexes into positive territory for the week following a challenging transition into 2025.
On Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed by 339.86 points, which equates to a gain of 0.8%, closing at 42,732.13. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 experienced a solid increase, rising by 73.92 points or 1.3%, to settle at 5,942.47. The Nasdaq Composite also showed vigor, leaping 340.88 points, or 1.8%, to finish the day at 19,621.68.
Despite Friday’s positive performance, the week closed with the S&P 500 down by 0.5%, the Dow dipping 0.6%, and the Nasdaq declining 0.5%. Looking ahead, investors will be keenly watching for the U.S. jobs report, expected to be released on January 10.
