This week, US Senators are busy scrutinizing Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, with Scott Bessent’s hearing being one part of these intense evaluations.
Among the most talked-about sessions was Pete Hegseth’s, Trump’s nominee for the Pentagon. On Tuesday, Hegseth found himself in the spotlight during a tense Senate committee session. Allegations of sexual assault and alcohol abuse were leveled against him. However, Hegseth dismissed these accusations, labeling them part of a “coordinated smear campaign” by the media during his four-hour testimony.
Meanwhile, Trump’s nominee for US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, insisted during her Wednesday confirmation hearing that her decision-making would be free of political influence. Bondi, a staunch Trump supporter and former two-term Attorney General of Florida, has previously vowed to investigate the investigators if needed once the president-elect resumes office. She’s slated to face another day of questioning today.
On a quieter note, Republican Senator Marco Rubio, chosen by Trump for Secretary of State, and Sean Duffy, the nominee for the Department of Transportation, both experienced relatively calm hearings on Wednesday.
