On Tuesday, we saw most major U.S. stock indexes wrap up the day on a high note. The Nasdaq Composite, known for being tech-centric, reached new heights, and Big Tech players played a significant role in lifting the S&P 500.
The S&P 500 just barely managed to scrape out a gain, picking up 2.73 points, or under 0.1%, closing at a new record of 6,049.88. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq saw a strong rise, adding 76.96 points, or 0.4%, to finish at 19,480.91. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 76.47 points, or 0.2%, closing the session at 44,705.53.
For 2024, the S&P 500 celebrated its 55th record close, while the Nasdaq marked its 34th for the year, according to data from Dow Jones Market Data. In the realm of Big Tech, Meta Platforms Inc., Facebook’s parent company, saw a notable jump of 3.5%. Meanwhile, Apple Inc., Amazon.com Inc., and Nvidia Corp. all enjoyed gains exceeding 1%, as shown by FactSet data.
