The fusion of blockchain technology and sports gaming is taking another exciting leap forward as FIFA has teamed up with a well-known crypto gaming studio to develop an innovative football game for mobile users.
Football fans around the globe are buzzing with anticipation for this blockchain-based soccer game, which is scheduled to hit the market next year.
### FIFA Rivals
Mark your calendars for the summer of 2025, as that’s when a brand-new, free-to-play mobile football game is set to launch. FIFA, in collaboration with a leading crypto gaming firm, has created FIFA Rivals, a mobile app promising a unique gaming experience.
According to reports, FIFA Rivals will echo the gameplay of NFL Rivals, a successful title developed by Mythical Games and launched in April 2023. Apple and Android users will soon have access to this Polkadot-powered soccer game, broadening the realm of mobile gaming.
The creators have shared that FIFA Rivals will utilize Mythos blockchain technology alongside the Polkadot network, following in the footsteps of NFL Rivals.
In a recent announcement on Twitter, Mythical Games expressed their enthusiasm: “Today, we’re thrilled to reveal a groundbreaking collaboration with @FIFAcom! Together, we’re rolling out @FIFARivals, an officially licensed football mobile game for iOS and Android. Are you ready? ⚽”
Just like NFL Rivals, FIFA Rivals is being constructed with the same cutting-edge technology on the Mythos blockchain. According to the gaming studio, players will be able to manage their own football clubs and engage in “real-time” arcade-style battles against others. “Build your squad, dominate the competition, and forge your legacy in our latest title,” encouraged Mythical Games.
Currently, the global market cap for cryptocurrencies is at $3.28 trillion, as depicted in a chart by TradingView.
### Potential for 100 Million Gamers
A top executive at Mythical Games is optimistic that FIFA Rivals could attract over 100 million players. CEO John Linden points out that a similar mobile game, NFL Rivals, has already gathered more than 6 million sign-ups from a relatively limited fan base.
Linden shared on Twitter, “Super proud to partner with @FIFAcom! We’re taking gaming and eSports to a truly global level with this game! From 6 million players and 150 million games played on NFL Rivals, we’re on track to reach 100m+ gamers and tens of billions of games with @FIFARivals, powered by Mythos…”
To put things in perspective, the FIFA World Cup captivated an audience of about 5 billion people in 2022, while the NFL playoffs last year drew in approximately 500 million viewers.
### The Blockchain and Sports Connection
The alliance between FIFA and Mythical Games represents just one of many collaborations between cryptocurrency enterprises and athletic organizations, aiming to enhance fan interaction and enjoyment. This trend is about making sports more interactive and engaging for fans.
One notable edge of these crypto-based games is the opportunity for players to own in-game assets and potentially profit from them. Mythical Games initially found success with Blankos Block Party, a game utilizing nonfungible tokens, which was later integrated into Polkadot, recording at least 3 million transactions monthly.
The realization of this new mobile football venture has been made possible with the backing of the Mythos Foundation, initiated in October 2022, to support emerging gamers and developers within the Mythical Games ecosystem.
