The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security reported on Saturday that their probing into drone sightings over New Jersey has unveiled an unexpected twist. It turns out that many of these so-called ‘drone’ sightings are actually cases of manned aircraft being mistaken for drones.
Furthermore, their inquiries have yet to reveal any evidence suggesting these drones are involved in illegal activities or sinister plots. The United States Coast Guard has also found no signs pointing to foreign influences lurking offshore.
A Department of Homeland Security representative commented, “So far, we haven’t uncovered any grounds to suspect criminal activities, national security threats, public safety concerns, or the involvement of any harmful foreign entities with these drones.”
The FBI began delving into hundreds of reports of nighttime drone operations in mid-November. Interestingly, many of these drones are larger than the typical models enthusiasts fly for fun.
However, on Thursday, FBI officials did raise a flag, cautioning that these drone sightings could potentially pose threats to national security and public safety.
Notably, some of these sightings have been reported over the Bedminster, New Jersey golf course owned by then-President-elect Donald Trump, as well as in close proximity to a military research facility.
