OpenAI faced a tough challenge on Wednesday when their two well-known services, ChatGPT and the Sora video generator, went offline. Determined to resolve the issue, OpenAI shared on X that they had pinpointed the cause and were diligently working on a solution.
Earlier this month, Altman shared some impressive news: their technology was now seeing 300 million active users each week. And coincidentally, Wednesday also saw Apple unveil new updates for iPhones, iPads, and Macs, which now feature ChatGPT integration.
The downtime for ChatGPT has already stretched beyond four hours. This isn’t the first time—back in June, they were down for over five hours.
In October, OpenAI’s valuation skyrocketed to a staggering $157 billion during a funding round that drew investments from Microsoft, a familiar ally, and Nvidia, a leading chipmaker. OpenAI’s ascent has been rapid ever since ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late 2022, capturing significant attention within the tech industry over these last few years.
Recently, on a new project front, OpenAI announced on Monday that their Sora video generator would be available in the U.S. and many other countries. However, on Tuesday, Altman took to X to admit they had “significantly underestimated demand for Sora,” hinting it could take some time before everyone gains access.
